What are the minimum requirements to use DJControl Mix Ultra?
iPhone/iPad with iOS 15 or more recent
Smartphone/tablet with Android 10 or more recent

Can I connect DJControl Mix Ultra to a computer using the USB cable?
Yes, you can connect DJControl Mix Ultra to a computer using the USB cable, to do the following:
- to carry out tests, in the Hercules DJ control panel or online.
- to charge the battery.
However, this controller is not meant to be used for DJing in USB mode on a computer, as the djay app whose functions it unlocks is on iOS and Android.

Does DJControl Mix Ultra work in Windows or macOS?
DJControl Mix Ultra is designed for use with a smartphone, and computers are not its reference platform. However, on a computer, it's easy to connect the controller via USB, but not via Bluetooth LE.

Does DJControl Mix Ultra work in Linux?
There's no DJ software that supports DJControl Mix Ultra in Linux.

1.2 DJ software

Is there a stems mode in the Android version of djay?
Yes, there is a stems mode in the Android version of djay. You'll need a recent smartphone to enable it.

Does the free version of djay for iOS/Android include stems, or do I have to pay for a subscription to access stems?
The free version of djay for iOS/Android lets you access stems without having to pay for a subscription, once djay is connected to DJControl Mix Ultra.

Do I need a paid subscription to use djay for iOS/Android with DJControl Mix Ultra?
No, DJControl Mix Ultra works with the free version of djay for iOS/Android. You don't need to pay for a subscription in order to use it.

I can't enable split output mode in the free version of djay. What should I do?
You must first pair DJControl Mix / DJControl Mix Ultra with the djay app, to make this option appear in the free version of djay.

Which additional functions does the subscription version of djay for iOS/Android provide (compared to the free version) when used with DJControl Mix Ultra?
Subscribing to djay for iOS/Android provides you with additional functions such as the ability to record your mix (if the audio sources aren't via streaming), automatic mixing, more elaborate sampling and looping functions, plus additional effects.

Without a subscription to a streaming platform, are there any music tracks that can be mixed in djay?
djay includes a pool of tracks (a few thousand) that you can use to mix without subscribing to a streaming platform, but the choice is more limited than on a streaming platform, and the tracks are not as well-known. They have the advantage of all being well-tagged and easy to mix with.

Is DJControl Mix Ultra compatible with Serato DJ?
No, DJControl Mix Ultra isn't compatible with Serato DJ. It's designed for use with smartphones and tablets.

Is DJControl Mix Ultra compatible with Rekordbox or eDjing?
No, DJControl Mix Ultra isn't compatible with Rekordbox or eDjing.

Which music streaming services are supported?
TIDAL, BeatPort, BeatSource, SoundCloud and Apple Music.

Can you mix tracks from Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube or Deezer?
No, the streaming platforms Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube and Deezer aren't accessible in the djay app. The 5 streaming platforms that can be accessed are TIDAL (with the DJ extension), BeatPort, BeatSource, SoundCloud and Apple Music.

2- Functions and usage

2.1 Bluetooth pairing

Do I have to pair DJControl Mix Ultra again for every session in djay?
That's how Bluetooth LE works: since the Bluetooth LE device is not paired with the iOS/Android system, but rather with the djay app, the device must be paired again for every session in the djay app.

Can I pair the DJ controller with my smartphone if the smartphone is already paired with a Bluetooth speaker?
Yes, because the controller is paired with the smartphone in Bluetooth LE mode, which isn't the same Bluetooth layer as the Bluetooth audio of the Bluetooth speaker.

Can I pair the DJ controller with a smartphone already paired with a smartwatch?
Yes, because the smartphone can support multiple simultaneous Bluetooth LE connections.

What's the latency between DJControl Mix Ultra and the smartphone?
Bluetooth LE adds less than 7ms of latency (similar to a USB controller's latency), so the djay app receives commands from DJControl Mix Ultra as quickly as a computer DJ app receives commands from a USB controller.
What can add latency is sending sound from the smartphone to the speaker, depending on the type of speaker being used:
- playing sound on the smartphone's built-in speakers or on wired speakers connected to the smartphone's headphones output (using a Lightning or USB-C to headphones output adapter) does not add any latency;
- playing sound on a Bluetooth or AirPlay speaker or headphones adds a variable amount of latency (which can be high), depending on the speaker's protocol.

2.2 Pads, faders and jog wheels

What are DJControl Mix Ultra's pad modes?
Mode 1: Hot-cue
Mode 2: Loop (auto-loop)

Which tempo scales can be assigned to the tempo fader?
8%, 10%, 16%, 25%, 50%, 75%

What do the pads control in Neural Mix mode?
In Neural Mix mode, the top row of pads plays the instruments solo, while the bottom row cuts out the instruments. For example, if the track is divided into 3 instruments (Drums/Melody/Vocals) or 4 instruments (Drums/Bass/Melody/Vocals), the first pad in the top row just plays the drums, while the first pad in the bottom row cuts out the drums.

Does the tempo fader have a click in the center position?
Yes, it does.

Which colors do the pads light up in?
The pads light up in blue.

If I place both hands on the 2 jog wheels in playback mode, scratching stops (and playback restarts) on the first deck stopped by my hand: how can I scratch on both jog wheels at the same time?
You must connect the USB power cable to a power source to scratch using both jog wheels at the same time.

2.3 Speakers and headphone

How can I listen to the mix on speakers?
Connect the smartphone/tablet to the speakers in one of the following two ways:
1. Wirelessly
- via Bluetooth audio (like all Bluetooth speakers); or
- via AirPlay (from an iPhone/iPad to speakers or TV AirPlay).
2. Using a cable, by connecting a Lightning or USB-C to 1/8"" / 3.5mm mini-jack output adapter to your smartphone and connecting wired speakers to the adapter's 1/8"" / 3.5mm mini-jack output.

How can I play the master output on speakers and the monitoring output on headphones at the same time?
DJControl Mix Ultra doesn't have a built-in sound card, so the sound is played by the smartphone.

To play both of the following at the same time:
- the master output on speakers; and
- the monitoring output on headphones,
you must:
1. Have a headphones output on your smartphone. On a smartphone without a headphones output, you must connect a data port -> 1/8"" / 3.5mm mini-jack adapter to the smartphone's connector.

2. Connect the splitter cable adapter included with DJControl Mix Ultra to the 1/8"" / 3.5mm mini-jack output.
3. Connect a wired speaker to the splitter cable's black output.
4. Connect wired headphones to the splitter cable's green output.
5. Start up the djay app on your smartphone.
6. Pair DJControl Mix Ultra with djay (djay > Settings > MIDI devices > Bluetooth MIDI devices).
7. Enable the splitter output in djay (djay > Settings > Audio devices > Pre-Cueing > Split Output).
8. Adjust the headphones output level in djay (djay > Settings > Pre-cueing volume slider).

If I connect a Bluetooth speaker and Bluetooth headphones to the same smartphone at the same time, can I play the mix on the speakers and monitor the next track on the headphones?
No: playing Bluetooth audio on a smartphone or tablet (even with a multipoint Bluetooth audio device) sends the same sound stream everywhere, so the music played on the Bluetooth speaker will be the same as the music played on the Bluetooth headphones.

Can I play the mix on AirPlay speakers instead of playing it on a Bluetooth speaker?
Yes: by connecting speakers to the smartphone via AirPlay, you can play the mix on these AirPlay speakers.
Please note: the latency via AirPlay (using Wi-Fi) may be longer than with a Bluetooth-connected speaker.

2.4 Battery

How long does the battery last?
Around 10 hours, depending on how many LEDs are used.

What are the built-in battery's technical features (type, capacity, duration of use, charging time)?
The built-in battery is a 1000 mAh lithium-ion model.
You can use DJControl Mix Ultra for about 10 hours before it will need to be recharged.
The controller charges (by connecting the included cable to a 1000 mA USB charger) in about 30 minutes if it's powered off, and 1 hour if it's powered on.

Can I charge DJControl Mix Ultra using any USB charger, including a power bank?
Yes: to charge DJControl Mix Ultra, you can connect it to any USB charger — whether a smartphone charger, the USB port on a USB hub, or the USB port on a power bank. It charges more or less quickly depending on the USB port's electrical intensity.

How can I check the built-in battery's charge level?
Powering on DJControl Mix Ultra lights up the battery indicator, which lets you know the charge level:
- Green: battery charged between 50 and 100%.
- Orange: battery charged between 20 and 50%.
- Red: battery less than 20% charged.
- Flashing red: battery is very close to 0% and should be recharged immediately.

Can I use DJControl Mix Ultra if the battery isn't charged?
Yes — but in that case you'll have to connect DJControl Mix Ultra to a USB power supply, and you can use it while it's charging.

If I forget to power off DJControl Mix Ultra, how long before the battery runs out?
That depends on how many controls are lit up on the controller. If only the battery and Bluetooth indicator lights are lit up, the battery will drain in about 20 hours.

Can I recharge DJControl Mix Ultra using a power bank?
Yes, you can.

Can I transport DJControl Mix Ultra in an airplane's cargo hold, given that it has a battery?
Yes, you can transport DJControl Mix Ultra on an airplane (either in the cargo hold or in the cabin), because:
- the battery is built into the device.
- the battery's capacity (1000 mAh) is below the ceiling value to allow a device to travel in the cargo hold.
The threshold above which a device equipped with a lithium-ion battery must be placed in the cabin is currently set at 27,000 mAh.

Can I change the built-in battery myself?
Yes: just open the battery hatch (as indicated in the maintenance instructions) to access the battery, and disconnect its connector, to replace it with an identical battery.

3- General questions

3.1 Controller position for mixing

Can I mix standing up — with the controller in its cover, and my smartphone propped up against the cover's lip?
No. To mix standing up, you must:
1. Lay your smartphone flat on the table, so that you can see the screen clearly.
2. Place the controller on the table, removed from its cover.
The controller should only be placed in the inverted cover and the smartphone propped up against the cover's lip:
- if you're mixing without a table (on your knees or in bed, for example).
- if you're mixing while sitting down (using the little table on a train or bus, for example).

3.2 Resistance, repairability, recycled materials

Is DJControl Mix Ultra water-, dust- or sun-resistant?
DJControl Mix Ultra isn't water- or dust-resistant, which is why it's better to place its cover on top when you're not using the controller.
It can be used in the sun, but since in the sun it's hard to see what's displayed on your smartphone's screen or which buttons are lit up, it's better to move to the shade for comfortable use.

Is DJControl Mix Ultra repairable?
Yes: the most fragile components can be replaced (i.e. the faders). Since DJControl Mix Ultra's faders are attached to separate circuits, you can replace them on their own without having to replace all of the circuits.

Are there any recycled materials in DJControl Mix Ultra?
Yes, 25% of the plastic materials are of recycled origin.
